Dermatologists Swear by These Anti-Acne Treatments for Stubborn Acne

By Skin & Hair Academy  |   May 24, 2018

Can’t seem to tackle recurring acne? You might be under a lot of stress, but believe it or not, that’s half the problem. Stress, only causes acne to worsen, which is why, dermatologists all over the world recommend that you treat breakouts with a cool mind. If your bumps or zits keep coming back, and nothing has worked on them so far, you need expert advice. Rest assured, the following treatments promise to make your zits disappear – they’re a mix of invasive, non-invasive, and topical treatments all of which work wonders on keeping your acne at bay.
#1: Retinoids
Type: Topical

acne-treatment-1Whether in the form of creams, lotions, or tablets, retinoids are one of the finest acne and pimple treatments available in the market today. They prompt skin cells to regenerate at a faster pace, and exfoliate the top layers of your skin cells. This way, you help reduce the formation of blackheads or whiteheads on your skin that, eventually, lead to acne.
Stimulated collagen and a clearer, more youthful complexion is just a bonus! Consult your dermatologist right away for adequate dosage, depending upon how severe your acne situation is.

#2: Isotretinoin
Type: Oral

acne-treatmentAcne forms – and reoccurs – because of unusual sebaceous gland activity or excessive oil production underneath the top-most layer of the skin. What you need to do is control it so that the acne no longer resurfaces. Isotretinoin is an oral medication that will come to your rescue for this purpose. Not only does it shed dead skin cells and prevent blocked pores, it also helps clear out acne scars from before.

#3: Glycolic Acid Peels
 Type: Non-invasive

chemical-acidOne of the more permanent anti-acne treatments, glycolic acid peels or chemical peels, in general, remove the upper layers of dead and damaged skin so that it can regenerate cells. Apart from working towards treating acne, they also help reduce stubborn scars on your face.
In this process, the doctor applies the acid all over your face and neck area, and leaves it on for 3-5 minutes. The acid signals the cells inside the skin to regenerate at a faster pace, which helps quicken the skin turnover, and prevents pores from becoming clogged, thus, aiding in acne reduction.

#4: Benzoyl Peroxide
Type: Topical

Another excellent over-the-counter medication available is Benzoyl Peroxide that can be applied on affected skin in the form of face wash, soap, gel, or cream. It acts as an antiseptic, and directly attacks the bacteria that cause acne. Chemically, Benzoyl Peroxide injects air into the pore that loosens the content in it, thereby, removing the plug of the bacteria, dirt and oil.
Benzoyl Peroxide is available in many concentrations, and therefore, it’s best to consult a dermatologist for adequate dosage before you invest in a product.

#5: Laser Therapy
Type: Invasive

If you’ve experienced acne for the longest time, dermatologists often recommend laser therapy for moderate-to-severe cases. Intense Pulse Light Therapy (IPL) is one such laser procedure that destroys the common acne causing bacteria through light beams. The procedure prevents any future pimples and acne, and even helps removing the ones already existent.
The procedure can be more expensive than the others, but it’s also, undoubtedly, more effective. Apart from reducing your acne, laser therapy also helps clearing out leftover scars, and makes way for a flawless complexion.

Hello spencer! let your dermatologist prescribe you the anti-acne skin care product before you buy it from any site. it might need a doctor's prescription or it could be an over the counter product, in which case you can order it from your chemist or a verified online store. hope this helps!
