What is Botox?
Cosmetic use of Boulinum toxin(Botox) is for wrinkle correction of face. It's a muscle relaxant injection mainly used to release muscle spam in different neurological disorders, later on it was found to be effective for facial muscle relaxer and thereby reduces wrinkles of face. It uses botulin toxin type A, specifically OnabotulinumtoxinA, which temporarily and partially paralyses the muscle where it is injected. The injection reduces the appearance of facial wrinkles. Since Botox is considered minimally invasive, it is said to be safe and effective for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, neck, hands etc.
How much does a Botox treatment cost?
The cost of Botox treatment varies depending on the number of injections, the size of the treatment area, and the geographic location where you decide to receive treatment. Since Botox is an elective procedure, your health insurance will not cover its cost when it is used for cosmetic reasons.
How does Botox work?

Botox usually works by temporarily blocking nerve signals and muscle contractions which in turn improves the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes and between the eyebrows. In addition to that, Botox can also reduce the formation of new lines by preventing the contraction of facial muscles. Since it is a minimally invasive procedure, it does not involve incisions or even general anaesthesia. However, a topic anaesthetic creams or ice can numb the treatment area if you are worried about pain and discomfort. Check with your doctor first before you get the injection.

During the procedure, the doctor uses a thin needle to administer 3-5 injections of the paralysing liquid in the targeted area. The entire procedure takes about 10 minutes.
What areas of the body can be treated with Botox?
Botox can treat the area between the eyebrows which is the glabella region and is effective in treating moderate to severe frown lines as well. It is also used to treat the area around the eyes, commonly known as crow’s feet lines. In certain countries, it is approved to treat certain medical problems such as overactive bladder, excessive underarm sweating, lower limb spasticity, and chronic migraines.
Are there any risks or side effects of Botox?
There’s a possibility of minor bruising or discomfort which should ideally improve within a few days. However, there are other side effects which may include swelling or drooping in the eyelid area, tiredness, headache, neck pain, double vision, dry eyes, or allergic reactions, such as rash, itching, or asthma symptoms. What is the preparation needed before Botox treatment?
Botox is a nonsurgical, in-office treatment and requires minimal preparation. However, before getting treated, you should let your doctor know about your medical history, allergies, or any medical conditions. Remember, whoever is doing the treatment should be a licensed physician. In addition, you should remove all your makeup and cleanse the treatment area before the procedure.
How soon are the effects of Botox seen?
The effect of Botox injections can been seen within one to three days after treatment. Depending on the area and problem being treated, the effect can last up to three months or longer. If you wish for the effect to remain, you will need to get regular follow-up injections.
What should you expect after a Botox treatment?
It takes a minimum of one day for the effects to be seen so after the treatment or procedure is done, do not rub or massage the treated areas for at least 24 hours. This should be done to ensure the toxin does not spread to a different area. However, you can return to your normal activities right after the procedure since it is a non-surgical treatment as mentioned before.
How long does it take for the next Botox treatment?
Depending on the area and problem addressed by Botox, the results should last for about four months. And if you wish to continue with the treatment, you will need to get regular additional injections to maintain the reduction of your wrinkles and fine lines.
